Optical Communications Engineer Summary: Our client has a requirement for an Optical Communications Engineer to perform a variety of important tasks in the development of custom optical communications systems. The Optical Communications Engineer will be part of a small team of experienced technical staff developing electro-optics subsystems that will be used for communicating between the earth and a satellite in lunar orbit. He/she will use high-quality dedicated laboratory equipment and electro-optics hardware.
Responsibilities: -Test and characterization of fiber-optic components -Fusion splicing specialty fiber types, optimizing splicing parameters for dissimilar fiber types -Developing data acquisition and instrument control software to support testing needs -Interacting with vendors and technical staff Skills: -Laboratory experience working with lasers and fiber-optic components, including fiber splicing -Experience with data acquisition and instrument control -Self-starter willing to support the laboratory and learn new skills -Ability to help troubleshoot optical, software, electronic, and mechanical issues as they arise Minimum Educational Requirements: -Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics -Matlab and LabVIEW programming experience desired Minimum Experience: -A minimum of 3-5 years Applicant must be a US Citizen and be eligible to receive Secret Security Clearance.
