Job Title: Manager - Mechanical Engineering Department Location: Houston, TX Relocation Assist: Available Position Summary Management/oversight of all mechanical engineering aspects within the family of companies with career path to Vice President level. Responsibilities •This top management position will manage and follow up on a continuing process of outgoing projects which include: streamlining of product lines; product improvements taking into consideration both customer needs and manufacturing requirements; development of new products; maximizing the gross margin of product lines through value engineering; and liaison between project management, sales, manufacturing, marketing, finance and customers on products and technology; •Develop policies, procedures & internal controls for all mechanical engineering aspects of the company and its subsidiaries; •Supervise, coordinate, and provide direction to the department including providing technical guidance where ever necessary; •Identify skill gaps of the technical support and recommend the necessary training required to both ensure that the department's personnel are up to speed to support local operations and enable them to achieve defined career paths; •Manage R&D projects involving mechanical engineering including developing and maintaining appropriate timelines and resources; •Work closely with the engineers in other disciplines to ensure all project objectives are met; and •Assist manufacturing plants and operations where necessary. Examples of Initial Deliverables Expected •First thirty (30) days deliverable will be a written report encompassing the assessment of current staff qualifications, workload, internal processes, quality control, and workflow, plus recommendations for improvement in each of these areas and suggested best practice implementation of the recommendations. •Three (3) month deliverable will be written reports on success of the implementation of new processes and measured reductions in error rate as well as a report on current quality assurance program and suggestions for improvements for part and equipment testing. Continued improvements will be expected as measured each following quarter. •Six (6) month deliverable will be Plan developed in collaboration with members of other departments, including Technical Services, Customer Service, Project Management and Marketing, detailing suggested incremental improvements to core products, implementation resources required and timeline to successful adaptation. •Twelve (12) month deliverable will be written report assessing success of Plan, implementation of previously suggested improvements/changes, and recommendations for the departments next twelve to twenty-four months. Basic Qualifications •Degreed engineer with P.E. certification within the USA; •At least 10 years experience in water and wastewater engineering field or related/relevant industry; •Must have experience with mechanical design of rotational equipment in a solid modeling CAD environment including 3D concepts (SolidWorks or Pro E), sufficient to understand challenges of and give guidance to department team, suggest potential automation improvements, check engineering drawings, and generally keep department at the forefront technologically; •Must be familiar with machine shop practices and have experience developing testing programs for new products and reducing costs through design, sourcing and manufacturing; •Excellent leadership and communication skills with demonstrated ability in a supervisory role, including proficiency in managing relationships within, and requirements of, fast paced engineering department; •Comprehensive exposure to business plans, customer requirements, and market demands; •Applicable business skills necessary to maximize gross margins and improve operational efficiency; •Ability to recognize and solve problems of complex nature; and •Ability to travel occasionally.
