Mechanical Engineer IIPrimary Role Performed: Provide quality mechanical / structural engineering design services for company products for proposals, projects and warranty work. Meet or exceed customer expectations in timely manner within the budget limits. Ensure compliance of company mechanical / structural design with applicable industry codes, standards and regulations. Assist other company locations and branches with mechanical / structural design and troubleshooting issues. Primary Activities: 1. Review customer applicable specifications to confirm design compliance for the application. (Request clarifications or provide exceptions list). 2. Create “Design Basis” document specific to the particular project. The document is based on the applicable Codes, client specifications, company scope of supply, and approved exception list. 3. Perform ASME Code VIII-1/2 calculations with all applicable design loads and design combinations in accordance with the “Design Basis”. 4. With all applicable design loads and combinations, including tie-down, lifting, jacking up, etc., perform vessel support design and design of lifting devices, as required. 5. With all applicable design loads and combinations, perform structural weld sizing as required. 6. With all applicable design loads and combinations, perform structural member sizing for skids, platforms, walkways. 7. With all applicable design loads and combinations, perform structural member and weld sizing for vessel internal supports, as required. 8. Coordinate with Drafting Department to identify locations of nozzles, supports and other vessel attachments. 9. Provide necessary dimensional sketches and engineering instructions to Drafting Department, as required. 10. Assist in providing necessary design information to an engineering contractor, as required. 11. Review and approve, as required, subcontractor calculations and drawings to ensure compliance with client specifications or applicable standards. 12. Assist other locations and branches with mechanical / structural engineering design, as required. 13. Provide preliminary vessel and structural beam weights. 14. Review “as-built” drawings and re-run calculations, as required, to ensure conformity. 15. Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process 16. Provide technical support for troubleshooting. 17. Check the work by others as required. Knowledge Requirements: 1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 2-5 years experience in the ASME B&PV Code Section VIII, Div.1/2 and ASME B.31-3 Standards. 2. Familiarity with national and international structural codes and NACE and API standards. 3. Good knowledge of technical aspects of oil and gas products and processes (company products/processes preferred). 4. General knowledge and understanding of fabrication and NDE methods. 5. Experience with trouble-shooting of process equipment. 6. Experience with commercial engineering design programs such as Compress, RISA-3D. Skills Requirements: 1. Ability to read and comprehend complex fabrication drawings and bills of materials. 2. Ability to read P&ID. 3. Ability to follow directions. 4. Ability to work independently with some supervision. 5. Ability to work as a team member with various company departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling the equipment. 6. Ability to utilize MS Office software. 7. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
